Now we're past the halfway point of The A.V. Club's half-decade film survey. Yesterday, we introduced the first 50 of our 100 favorite films of the past five years. My best films list also appears on my main site, but I am posting it here on the blog so that you can comment on it. In response to the reader protests of recent years, I've returned to the time-honored tradition of ten films arranged in order from one to ten. After that, it's all alphabetical. The notion of objectively ordering works of art seems bizarre to me.

The last five years have seen plenty of films to thrill moviegoers. We've seen the rise of the comic book franchises of Marvel and Warner Bros; action films that try to be smart and not just thrills; fantastic stunts and FX but also fun dramas amid the huge franchises. No matter what the genre is, one thing is still true: Moviegoers love a great plot twist.
