Dan Rooney

Dan Rooney has served more than 45 years with the Pittsburgh Steelers organization. A central figure in NFL operations over the past two decades, Dan assumed duties in the Steelers organization immediately following his graduation from Duquesne University in 1955.

'My job is to do what's best for the organization and to make that decision regardless of what the consequences are to me personally...I take my position very seriously...what I want is an organization that can be together, one where everybody in the place has the same goal, and that is to win.'

Daniel Milton Rooney was born on July 20, 1932. His father, Arthur Joseph Rooney purchased the Pittsburgh Steelers franchise (at that time known as the Pirates) on July 8, 1933. It's safe to say that Dan Rooney has been a part of the franchise nearly his entire life.

Daniel Milton "Dan" Rooney (born July 20, 1932) is the former United States Ambassador to Ireland, who served from July 3, 2009 until his resignation in 2012. He is chairman[2] of the Pittsburgh Steelers football team in the National Football League (NFL), which was founded by his father, Art.[3] Rooney was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2000 for his contributions to the game. He is credited with spearheading a requirement that NFL teams with head coach and general manager vacancies interview at least one minority candidate, which has become known as the "Rooney Rule".
