The cornerstone of the university building was embedded on the 7th of June 1900. Within the next four years buildings of total volume exceeding 200,000 m³ were erected on the area of 6,4 ha. Back then, the university was divided into six faculties: Architecture, Chemistry, Construction, Machine Engineering and Electrotechnics, Shipbuilding and Ship Machine Engineering and General Sciences.

Study in Pomorskie - Aktualności - Politechnika Gdańska
Agreement on the implementation of the project Strategic Study in Pomorskie was concluded by the Municipality of Pomeranian Region and eight universities in our region, including Gdansk University of Technology. The aim of the agreement is to support activities aimed at internationalization and academic centers of Pomerania improving competitiveness - the university and the region.

The Gdańsk University of Technology (GUT; Polish: Politechnika Gdańska) is a technical university in Gdańsk-Wrzeszcz, and one of the oldest universities in Poland. It has nine faculties and with 41 fields of study and more than 26 thousand undergraduate, as well as about 400 doctoral students. It currently[when?] employs 2500 people, including 1200 academic teachers. It received CESAER Membership in 2015. The rector of the university (2016-2020) is professor Jacek Namieśnik.[1]
