The Minskoff Theatre opened in 1973, designed by architects Kahn and Jacobs and named for owners Sam Minskoff and Sons. Situated in a high-rise building, the venue was innovative in its placement 35 feet above Broadway. Since 2006, the Minskoff has housed the transfer of the long-running Lion King.

Opened in 1973, the theatre was named for Sam Minskoff and Sons, one of New York's distinguished real estate families. Over 200 craftsmen and artisans worked nearly six months to extensively refurbish the Minskoff Theatre to welcome Disney's The Lion King. Architectural designer Mariuca Brancoveanu has created a dramatic new environment that starts with the terrazzo walkway through the promenade into the theatre. The main lobby area features hand-painted, gold-leaf sculpted tableaus that adorn the theatre's expansive interior walls and showcase its panoramic views of Broadway. The Minskoff has 1,597 seats and is one of The Nederlander Organization's nine Broadway theatres.

The Minskoff Theatre is a Broadway theatre, located at 1515 Broadway in Midtown Manhattan. It is currently home to the musical The Lion King, based on the Disney animated film of the same name. The 1,621-seat venue, designed by architects Kahn and Jacobs, is on the third floor of One Astor Plaza, an office tower constructed on the site of the Astor Hotel. Named after Sam Minskoff and Sons (Henry H. Minskoff, Jerome Minskoff, Myron Minskoff, and Leo Minskoff), builders and owners of the high-rise building, it opened March 13, 1973, with a revival of Irene starring Debbie Reynolds. Over the years it has served as host to musicals, dance companies, and concerts.
