The Insomniac is a 2013 American whodunit psychological thriller written by Eddy Salazar and Peter Kenneth Jones, and directed by Monty Miranda. The feature film stars Salazar in the title role, Clare Grant, Keith Szarabajka, John Heard, and Danny Trejo. The Insomniac centers around John Figg (Salazar), a financial adviser who develops a severe case of self-induced insomnia after the house he recently inherited from his deceased father gets brutally ransacked and robbed. While the movie's most noticeable source of inspiration came from Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window, there are a number of references to other past insomnia-themed movies, such as The Machinist, and Insomnia. A strong recurring theme throughout the film is the attachment one gets for material possessions.

Dhoom 3 (, English: Blast 3, also abbreviated and known as D:3 and D3) is a 2013 Indian action film, written and directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya and produced by Aditya Chopra. The third installment of the Dhoom series, it features Aamir Khan as the antagonist and Katrina Kaif, with Abhishek Bachchan in the lead role reprising his role of Jai and Uday Chopra reprising his role as Ali Akbar, as in the previous films of the franchise. Made on a budget of 175 crore (US$26 million), the most expensive Indian film of all time, until it was beaten by Baahubali: The Beginning. Dhoom 3 was released on 20 December 2013, marking itself as the first Indian film to be released in the IMAX motion picture film format with Dolby Atmos surround sound.

Justin Bieber's Believe is a 2013 concert film biopic and the sequel to Never Say Never, both centering on Canadian singer Justin Bieber. It was released through Open Road Films in the United States and Canada on December 25, 2013. The film received negative reviews from critics and grossed $6.2 million in the United States.

Grudge Match is a 2013 sports comedy film starring Robert De Niro and Sylvester Stallone as aging boxers stepping into the ring for one last bout. This is the first Indian film to be extensively shot in South Africa. The film is the most successful film at the Tollywood Box Office. Since its release the film gained a strong cult following from the audience as well as the critics. Critics consider it Dev's most memorable and recognizable work.

Walking with Dinosaurs (also advertised as Walking with Dinosaurs: The 3D Movie) is a 2013 British-Australian-American live-action/computer-animated family film about dinosaurs set in the Late Cretaceous period, 70 million years ago. The production features computer-animated dinosaurs in live-action settings with actors John Leguizamo, Justin Long, Tiya Sircar, and Skyler Stone providing voiceovers for the main characters. Set during the war in Afghanistan, Lone Survivor dramatizes the failed United States Navy SEALs counter-insurgent mission Operation Red Wings, during which a four-man SEAL reconnaissance and surveillance team was tasked to track down and kill Taliban leader Ahmad Shah.

Out of the Furnace is a 2013 American thriller film, directed by Scott Cooper, from a screenplay written by Cooper and Brad Ingelsby. In the process, Krishna's pregnant wife Priya is kidnapped by Kaal and the form-changing Kaya takes her place at the Mehra home and eventually falls in love with Krishna.

Free Birds is a 2013 American 3D computer-animated buddy comedy film which tells a story about two turkeys who travel back in time to prevent Thanksgiving. It was produced by Reel FX Creative Studios as its first animated feature film, directed by Jimmy Hayward and it stars the voices of Owen Wilson, Woody Harrelson and Amy Poehler. Originally titled Turkeys, it was scheduled for 2014, but it was released on November 1, 2013 by Relativity Media. The film received negative reviews from critics and it earned $110 million on a $55 million budget. Free Birds was released on DVD and Blu-ray on February 4, 2014 by 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment.

Bad Grandpa has a loose plot that connects the stunts and pranks together (in a manner reminiscent of Borat), as opposed to the three original Jackass films which had no plot.

Ender's Game is a 2013 American science fiction action film based on the novel of the same name by Orson Scott Card. Written and directed by Gavin Hood, the film stars Asa Butterfield as Andrew "Ender" Wiggin, an unusually gifted child who is sent to an advanced military academy in outer space to prepare for a future alien invasion. The supporting cast includes Harrison Ford, Hailee Steinfeld, Viola Davis, Abigail Breslin, and Ben Kingsley.

Saving Mr. Banks is a 2013 period drama film directed by John Lee Hancock from a screenplay written by Kelly Marcel and Sue Smith. Centered on the development of the 1964 film Mary Poppins, the film stars Emma Thompson as author P. L. 23 Blast is a 2013 American sports drama film directed by Dylan Baker. The film was written by Bram and Toni Hoover, inspired by the story of Travis Freeman, a Kentucky teen who loses his sight, but eventually overcomes the challenges of his disability, and continues to live his dream of playing football. Travis is portrayed by Mark Hapka in the film.

Purno Doirgho Prem Kahini (English: Full Length Love Story) is an 2013 Dhallywood romantic drama film directed by Shafi Uddin Shafi. The film stars Shakib Khan, Joya Ahsan and Arefin Shuvo in lead roles. This is the first collaboration between Khan and Ahsan. Filming began on 4 August 2012 and was wrapped-up by June 2013. The film was released on 16 October 2013 of eid al adha. Upon release, the film received positive reviews both for its making and new style of graphic presentation infused by Jafreen Sadia and was a huge box office success. The movie run 100 days successfully in cinemas and turned out to be biggest grosser of the year. A sequel titled Purno Doirgho Prem Kahini 2 is in production and scheduled to release in 2015.

I'm in Love with a Church Girl is a 2013 Christian drama film, directed by Steve Race. It stars Jeff 'Ja Rule' Atkins, Adrienne Bailon, Stephen Baldwin, Vincent Pastore, Toby Mac, T-Bone and Michael Madsen. The film was released in theaters on October 18, 2013. Reviews from mainstream media were negative while the response from Christian media was more positive.

Carrie is a 2013 American supernatural horror film. It is the third film adaptation of Stephen King's 1974 novel of the same name, though Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Screen Gems, who produced the film, employed a script that was reportedly more faithful to King's original novel. Gimme Shelter is a 2013 American independent drama film written and directed by Ronald Krauss based on a true story about a pregnant teenager, Apple (Vanessa Hudgens), who runs away from her abusive, drug-addicted mother (Rosario Dawson), and traces her father (Brendan Fraser). Apple's difficult and abusive upbringing, unfortunate situation and her father and his wife's struggle to integrate her into their family result in conflicts. After crashing the car of a pimp who forced her into his vehicle, Apple awakes in hospital where she encounters a Catholic Priest (James Earl Jones) who connects her with a Catholic shelter for pregnant teens that encourages the pregnant girls to have babies.

Waar is a 2013 Pakistani action-drama film directed by Bilal Lashari and written and produced by Hassan Rana. The film features Shaan Shahid, Meesha Shafi, Ali Azmat, Shamoon Abbasi, Ayesha Khan and Kamran Lashari. It is the second highest-grossing Pakistani film after Jawani Phir Nahi Ani. The film is a stylized depiction of events surrounding the war on terror in Pakistan, including the attack on a Police Academy at Lahore in 2009.

Charlie's Country is a 2013 Australian drama film directed by Rolf de Heer. It was selected to compete in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival where David Gulpilil won the award for Best Actor. It was also screened in the Contemporary World Cinema section at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival and awarded the Best Fiction Prize and the Youth Jury Prize at the 2015 International Film Festival and Forum on Human Rights (FIFDH) in Geneva.

Romeo & Juliet is a 2013 British-Italian-Swiss romantic drama film adaptation of William Shakespeare's romantic tragedy of the same name directed by Carlo Carlei. Escape Plan (formerly known as Exit Plan and The Tomb) is a 2013 American action thriller film starring Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger, and co-starring Jim Caviezel, Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, Vinnie Jones, Vincent D'Onofrio and Amy Ryan. Escape Plan is directed by Swedish filmmaker Mikael Håfström, and is written by Miles Chapman and Jason Keller (under the anagram pen-name 'Arnell Jesko'). The first film to pair up action film icons Stallone and Schwarzenegger as co-leads, it follows Stallone's character Ray Breslin, a structural engineer who is incarcerated in the world's most secret and secure prison, aided in his escape by fellow inmate Emil Rottmayer (Schwarzenegger).

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is a 2013 romantic comedy-drama adventure cult film directed by, produced by, and starring Ben Stiller. Gore Verbinski served as executive producer. This is the second film adaptation of James Thurber's 1939 short story of the same name. The 1947 version was produced by Samuel Goldwyn and directed by Norman Z. McLeod, with Danny Kaye playing the role of Walter Mitty. The film premiered at the New York Film Festival on October 5, 2013. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty was theatrically released on December 25, 2013 in North America, to generally mixed reception, and was a moderate box office success, however the film has gathered a cult following since its release.

Runner Runner is a 2013 American crime thriller film directed by Brad Furman, and written by Brian Koppelman and David Levien. The film stars Justin Timberlake, Ben Affleck, Gemma Arterton, and Anthony Mackie, and was produced by Arnon Milchan, Jennifer Davisson Killoran, Leonardo DiCaprio, Michael Shamberg, Stacey Sher, Brian Koppelman, and David Levien. It was released in Belgium, France and the Philippines on September 25, 2013, and in several other countries on the following days. It was released in the United States on October 4, 2013. Some parts of this narrative are based on the life of Nat Arem, a professional poker player and former accountant at Deloitte Touche who helped uncover cheating in online poker by using statistical methods to analyze thousands of games. The film received generally negative reviews from critics.

Grace Unplugged is a 2013 Christian musical drama film. The film is based on a story by Brandon Rice, written and directed by Brad J. Silverman, and stars AJ Michalka, James Denton, and Kevin Pollak. It is a family-friendly film about an 18-year-old girl who rejects her father's desire for her to be a church singer and goes to Hollywood seeking stardom. The film was released to theaters October 4, 2013 by Lionsgate Films and Roadside Attractions, and was co-produced by Orion Pictures in their first film under the banner since 1999.

The Counselor (spelled The Counsellor in some markets) is a 2013 British-American crime thriller film directed by Ridley Scott and written by Cormac McCarthy. It stars Michael Fassbender as the eponymous Counselor - who gets in over his head in a drug deal around the troubled Ciudad Juarez, Mexico / Texas border area - as well as Penélope Cruz, Cameron Diaz, Javier Bardem and Brad Pitt. The film deals with themes of greed, death, the primal instincts of humans and their consequences.

The Book Thief is a 2013 American-German war drama film directed by Brian Percival and starring Geoffrey Rush, Emily Watson, and Sophie Nélisse. The film is based on the 2005 novel The Book Thief by Markus Zusak and adapted by Michael Petroni. The film is about a young girl living with her adoptive German family during the Nazi era. Taught to read by her kind-hearted foster father, the girl begins "borrowing" books and sharing them with the Jewish refugee being sheltered by her foster parents in their home. The film features a musical score by Oscar-winning composer John Williams.

Udhao is a 2013 Bangladeshi film directed and written by Amit Ashraf. It is an award winning film which was released in September 28 on Star Cineplex and in October 4 commercially in around five cinemas. The film has brought home seven international awards and grants. The casts of the film includes Shahed Ali and Shakil Ahmed in the role of two protagonists - Babu and Akbar respectively - along with Animesh Aich, Ritu Sattar, Nawshaba Ahmed, Shaheen Akhtar Swarna, Saiful Islam and Ithila Islam.

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 is a 2013 American computer-animated comic science fiction comedy film produced by Sony Pictures Animation and distributed by Columbia Pictures. The film is the sequel to the 2009 film Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, which was loosely based on Judi and Ron Barrett's book of the same name. It was directed by Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn, produced by Kirk Bodyfelt, and executive produced by the directors of the first film, Phil Lord and Chris Miller. The film was released on September 27, 2013. The film grossed over $274 million worldwide against its budget of $78 million.

Battle of the Year is a 2013 American 3D dance film directed by Benson Lee. The film was released on September 20, 2013 through Screen Gems and stars Josh Holloway, Chris Brown, Laz Alonso, Caity Lotz, and Josh Peck.

Filth is a 2013 Scottish crime comedy-drama film written and directed by Jon S. Baird, based on Irvine Welsh's novel Filth. Metallica Through the Never is a 2013 American IMAX thriller concert film featuring the American heavy metal band Metallica. The film title is derived from the song "Through the Never" off the band's self-titled 1991 album. It follows a young roadie, Trip's (Dane DeHaan) surreal misadventures intercut with concert footage shot in Vancouver and Edmonton in August 2012. The film uses a unique premise of no dialogue or narration in the film's entirety with the exception of Trip's supervisor and the band. It was the first feature released by the revived incarnation of the Picturehouse marquee, which had been shut down since 2008.

August: Osage County is a 2013 American Black comedy drama film written by Tracy Letts and based on his Pulitzer Prize-winning play of the same name, and directed by John Wells. It is produced by George Clooney, Jean Doumanian, Grant Heslov, Steve Traxler, and Bob and Harvey Weinstein.

Oculus is a 2013 American psychological-supernatural horror film directed by Mike Flanagan. The film had its world premiere on September 5, 2013, at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), and received a wide theatrical release on April 11, 2014. The film stars Karen Gillan as a young woman who is convinced that an antique mirror is responsible for the death and misfortune that her family suffered. The film is based upon an earlier short film by Flanagan, Oculus: Chapter 3 - The Man with the Plan.

Anthony Mackie, David Thewlis, Alicia Vikander, Stanley Tucci, and Laura Linney are featured in supporting roles. The film's screenplay was written by Josh Singer based in-part on Domscheit-Berg's book Inside WikiLeaks: My Time with Julian Assange and the World's Most Dangerous Website (2011), as well as WikiLeaks: Inside Julian Assange's War on Secrecy (2011) by British journalists David Leigh and Luke Harding. The film's name is a term used to describe the people who operate in the manner of journalists outside the normal constraints imposed on the mainstream media.

Under the Skin is a 2013 science fiction-horror art film directed by Jonathan Glazer, and written by Glazer and Walter Campbell as a loose adaptation of Michel Faber's 2000 novel of the same name. It was released in the UK on 14 March 2014 and the US on 4 April. The film stars Scarlett Johansson as an otherworldly seductress who preys on men in Scotland. The music was composed by Mica Levi.

Palo Alto is a 2013 American drama film written and directed by Gia Coppola, based on James Franco's short story collection Palo Alto (2010). Franco stars, along with Emma Roberts, Jack Kilmer, Nat Wolff and Zoe Levin.

The film initially had a limited release on December 27, 2013 before opening wide on January 31, 2014, in the United States. It was announced in 2009 that the film would be directed by Jason Reitman. On June 16, 2011, it was announced that Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin committed to star as the film's leads Adele and Frank, respectively. Paramount Pictures and Indian Paintbrush co-produced the film. The film premiered at the Telluride Film Festival on August 29, 2013, and on September 7, 2013, at Toronto International Film Festival.

Nurse 3D is a 2013 American 3D horror film directed by Doug Aarniokoski and written by David Loughery. Starring Paz de la Huerta, Katrina Bowden, and Corbin Bleu, the film is inspired by the photography of Lionsgate's chief marketing officer, Tim Palen. Production took place from September to October 2011.

The Butler (full title Lee Daniels' The Butler) is a 2013 American historical drama film directed and produced by Lee Daniels and written by Danny Strong. Loosely based on the real life of Eugene Allen, the film stars Forest Whitaker as Cecil Gaines, an African-American who eyewitnesses notable political and social events of the 20th century during his 34-year tenure serving as a White House butler. In addition to Whitaker, the film's all-star cast also features Oprah Winfrey, John Cusack, Jane Fonda, Cuba Gooding, Jr., Terrence Howard, Lenny Kravitz, James Marsden, David Oyelowo, Vanessa Redgrave, Alan Rickman, Liev Schreiber, Robin Williams, and Clarence Williams III. It was the last film produced by Laura Ziskin, who died in 2011.

Kick-Ass 2 is a 2013 British-American superhero action comedy film based on the comic book of the same name and Hit-Girl, both by Mark Millar and John Romita, Jr., and is the sequel to the 2010 film Kick-Ass, as well as the second installment of the Kick-Ass film series. The film was filmed together with the first film, and was based on the second half of Guo's own novel. Tiny Times 3, the third installment of the Tiny Times series was released on July 17, 2014.

Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters (also known as Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Sea of Monsters) is a 2013 American fantasy adventure film directed by Thor Freudenthal. It is the second installment in the Percy Jackson film series and is based on the novel The Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan. It is a sequel to the 2010 film Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief.

Elysium is a 2013 American science fiction action thriller film written and directed by Neill Blomkamp. It stars Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, Alice Braga and Sharlto Copley.

The title of the film was inspired by the lyrics of the late Afrobeat singer Fela Kuti's song "Confusion". Confusion Na Wa won the Best picture at the 9th Africa Movie Academy Awards, it also won the award for Best Nigerian film. The film tells a story on how so many interconnected separate events come together to complicate the lives of people.

The Smurfs 2 is a 2013 American 3D live-action/computer-animated family comedy film and a sequel to the 2011 film The Smurfs. It is loosely based on The Smurfs comic-book series created by the Belgian comics artist Peyo. It is the second installment of a projected trilogy, produced by Sony Pictures Animation and distributed by Columbia Pictures. The film is directed by Raja Gosnell, who helmed the first, with all the main cast returning. New cast members include Christina Ricci and J. B. Smoove as members of the Naughties, and Brendan Gleeson as Patrick Winslow's stepfather. The film was released on July 31, 2013 and is dedicated to Jonathan Winters, who voiced Papa Smurf and died on April 11, 2013.

The Lifeguard is a 2013 American drama produced, written, and directed by Liz W. Garcia, and starring Kristen Bell and David Lambert. The film was released via video on demand on July 30, 2013, and received a limited release in theaters on August 30.

The film is adapted from Miyazaki's manga of the same name, which was in turn loosely based on the 1937 short story The Wind Has Risen by Tatsuo Hori. It was the final film directed by Miyazaki before his retirement in September 2013. The Wind Rises was the highest-grossing Japanese film in Japan in 2013 and received critical acclaim. It won and was nominated for several awards, including nominations for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, the Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film, and the Japan Academy Prize for Animation of the Year.

Red 2 is 2013 American action comedy film and sequel to Red (2010). It was inspired by the limited comic book series of the same name, created by Warren Ellis and Cully Hamner, and published by the DC Comics imprint Homage. The film stars Bruce Willis, John Malkovich, Mary-Louise Parker, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Lee Byung-hun, Anthony Hopkins, and Helen Mirren, with Dean Parisot directing a screenplay by Jon and Erich Hoeber. R.I.P.D. (released with the subtitle Rest In Peace Department) is a 2013 American supernatural action-comedy film starring Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds. Robert Schwentke directed the film based on a screenplay adapted from the comic book Rest in Peace Department by Peter M. Lenkov. The film also stars Kevin Bacon, Mary-Louise Parker and Stephanie Szostak.

The Wolverine is a 2013 superhero film featuring the Marvel Comics character Wolverine. The film, distributed by 20th Century Fox, is the sixth installment in the X-Men film series. Pokémon the Movie: Genesect and the Legend Awakened, originally released in Japan as Pocket Monsters Best Wishes! The Movie: ExtremeSpeed Genesect: Mewtwo Awakens is a 2013 Japanese anime film directed by Kunihiko Yuyama. It is the 16th Pokémon anime movie and the third and the final arc of the Best Wishes series. The movie premiered in theaters on July 13, 2013. The movie features Genesect, the Paleozoic and final Pokémon in the fifth generation, as well as Mewtwo. The film was shown on Cartoon Network in the United States, and on CITV in the United Kingdom on October 19, 2013 after Media Factory's retirement of the Pokémon products on October 1, 2013. The film was also shown in the Philippines starting on November 13, 2013, exclusively on SM Cinemas. On December 3, 2013, Viz Media released the movie on DVD in the U.S before the movie released on DVD and Blu-ray in the Japan on December 18, 2013.

Killing Season (previously titled Shrapnel) is a 2013 American action thriller film written by Evan Daugherty and directed by Mark Steven Johnson for Millennium Films, as the first on-screen pairing of actors John Travolta and Robert De Niro. The film pertains to a personal fight between an American and a Serb war veteran.

Grown Ups 2 is a 2013 American buddy comedy film directed by Dennis Dugan, and also produced by Adam Sandler, who also starred in the film. It is the sequel to the 2010 film Grown Ups. The film co-stars Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, Nick Swardson, and Salma Hayek. The film is produced by Adam Sandler's production company Happy Madison and distributed by Columbia Pictures. The film was released on July 12, 2013. Although it was a box-office success, grossing roughly $247 million on an $80 million budget, it was heavily panned by critics. It was nominated nine times at the 2014 Golden Raspberry Awards.

Dealin' with Idiots is an 2013 American film written and directed by Jeff Garlin, who also stars. It was distributed by IFC Films and released on July 12, 2013.

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (English: "Run Milkha Run") is a 2013 Indian biographical sports drama film directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra from a script written by Prasoon Joshi based on the life of Milkha Singh, an Indian athlete who was a national champion runner and an Olympian. The World's End is a 2013 comic science fiction film directed by Edgar Wright, written by Wright and Simon Pegg, and starring Pegg, Nick Frost, Paddy Considine, Martin Freeman, Rosamund Pike and Eddie Marsan. The film follows a group of friends who discover an alien invasion during an epic pub crawl in their home town. Wright has described the film as "social science fiction" in the tradition of John Wyndham and Samuel Youd (John Christopher). It is the third film in the Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy, following Shaun of the Dead (2004) and Hot Fuzz (2007). The film was produced by Relativity Media, StudioCanal, Big Talk Productions, and Working Title Films.

Lootera, is a 2013 Indian period romantic drama film directed by Vikramaditya Motwane and partly based on author O. Henry's 1907 short story The Last Leaf. It is the second film directed by Motwane after his critically acclaimed film Udaan. Set in the era of the 1950s, the film stars Ranveer Singh and Sonakshi Sinha in lead roles. The film's producers are Shobha Kapoor, Ekta Kapoor, Anurag Kashyap and Vikas Bahl, the film features music and background score by Amit Trivedi with all song lyrics penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya and cinematography by Mahendra J. Shetty. Lootera released to worldwide critical acclaim on 5 July 2013 and was counted as one of the best movies of the year 2013.

The Family (released as Malavita and Cosa Nostra in some foreign markets) is a 2013 crime comedy film directed by Luc Besson, starring Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer, Tommy Lee Jones, Dianna Agron, and John D'Leo. The film follows a Mafia family under the witness protection program that want to change their lives. The film is based on the French novel Malavita (Badfellas in the 2010 English translation) by Tonino Benacquista.

After Earth is a 2013 American science fiction action adventure film directed by M. Night Shyamalan, which he co-wrote with Gary Whitta, based on an original story idea by Will Smith. It is the second film (the first being The Pursuit of Happyness) that stars real-life father and son Will and Jaden Smith, and Sophie Okonedo; Will Smith also produced via his company Overbrook Entertainment, and the distribution was by Columbia Pictures. The film was released in IMAX on May 31, 2013. It received negative reviews from critics, with major criticism over Jaden Smith's performance as well as the self-contradicting script, numerous inconsistencies and plot holes. The film was a flop in the domestic market but a modest success overseas.

It was written by Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, and is a sequel to 2009's G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. G.I. Joe: Retaliation features an ensemble cast, with Channing Tatum, Arnold Vosloo, Ray Park, Jonathan Pryce and Byung-hun Lee reprising their roles from the first film. Dwayne Johnson, Adrianne Palicki, D. J. Cotrona, and Bruce Willis as General Joseph Colton round out the principal cast.

Filming began in the summer of July 2011, and it was released January 4, 2013.

Matthew McConaughey, Rob Reiner, Jon Favreau, and Jean Dujardin are also featured. The film marks the director's fifth collaboration with DiCaprio, after Gangs of New York (2002), The Aviator (2004), The Departed (2006), and Shutter Island (2010), as well as his second collaboration with Winter after the television series Boardwalk Empire (2010-14).

12 Years a Slave is a 2013 period drama film and an adaptation of the 1853 slave narrative memoir Twelve Years a Slave by Solomon Northup, a New York State-born free African-American man who was kidnapped in Washington, D.C., in 1841 and sold into slavery. Northup worked on plantations in the state of Louisiana for 12 years before his release. The first scholarly edition of Northup's memoir, co-edited in 1968 by Sue Eakin and Joseph Logsdon, carefully retraced and validated the account and concluded it to be accurate.
