The Grambling State Tigers are the college football team representing the Grambling State University. The Tigers, under Hall of Fame coach Eddie Robinson who guided them to 408 victories in 57 seasons from 1941 to 1997, where built as a small-school powerhouse with more than 200 players who played professional football.

Jerry Rice and Deacon Jones, considered two of the greatest American football players of all time, spent their college days playing for the team.

The Prairie View A&M Panthers are the college football team representing the Prairie View A&M University. From 1989-1998, Prairie View A&M lost 80 straight games, the longest losing streak in NCAA history.

The Southern Jaguars are the college football team representing the Southern University. The Jaguars play in NCAA Division I Football Championship as a member of the Southwestern Athletic Conference. The Jaguars started collegiate football in 1916, and played in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference before joining the SWAC in 1934.

The Texas Southern Tigers are the college football team representing Texas Southern University, a historically black university (HBCU) in Houston. The Tigers play in the NCAA's Division I FCS as a member of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), a conference whose members are all HBCUs. In 2012, the Tigers moved into the new BBVA Compass Stadium, built for the city's Major League Soccer team, the Houston Dynamo. It replaced the Alexander Durley Sports Complex as the home of Tiger football. On December 3, 2015, Houston native Michael Haywood was hired as the Tigers' 16th all-time head coach.
