Barasingha - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The barasingha, also called swamp deer, is a deer species distributed in the Indian subcontinent. Populations in northern and central India are fragmented, and two isolated populations occur in southwestern Nepal. It is extinct in Pakistan and in Bangladesh.

The barasingha was formerly located in suitable localities throughout the basins of the Indus, Ganges and Brahmaputra Rivers as well as central India. Currently, it is restricted to India and Nepal in a northern population in the terai of Uttar Pradesh and adjoining Nepal and Assam, as well as a southern population in Madhya Pradesh.
