Utilitarianism is a philosophical and ethical concept established by John Stuart Mill; the core idea is that actions are themselves morally neutral and can be judged only by their consequences. An ethically "good" behavior is one which has generally positive consequences; a "bad" behavior would be generally harmful, regardless of the motives of the actor.
