Literature includes the study of works of fiction and non-fiction, poetry and prose. Literature studies at the K12 level aim to introduce students to (age appropriate) works of American, British and global literature and study common elements and organizing ideas that aid reading comprehension. Literature also lends itself to acquiring and appreciating a common cultural knowledge about well-known characters, stories and ideas.
