The University of Maryland women's basketball team is a prominent program in the history of women's basketball. A founding member of the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Lady Terrapins joined the Big Ten Conference July 1, 2014. Since 2002, team has been led by head coach Brenda Frese. In 2006, with only four years under Frese, the Lady Terps won their first NCAA Championship in their fourth trip to the Final Four - their first Final Four appearance since 1989.

In 2013, the Lady Lions became just the twelfth program in NCAA Division I history to reach 850 wins. Penn State has won 8 regular season Big Ten titles and the first 2 Big Ten tournament titles in 1995 and 1996. The Lady Lions have 25 NCAA tournament appearances as of 2014, the most in the Big Ten.

The Purdue Boilermakers women's basketball team is a college basketball program that competes in NCAA Division I and the Big Ten Conference. Purdue is rich in tradition and history, holding the record for Big Ten Championships, along with being the only program in the conference to boast winning records versus every other school in the Big Ten. The Boilermakers have appeared in the NCAA Final Four three times, and won the NCAA National Championship in 1999. The Boilermakers share a classic rivalry with the Indiana Hoosiers, of which Purdue owns a 40-23 series lead.

The Scarlet Knights women's basketball of late has been one of the more successful programs in the school. A notable season would be the 2005-2006 season, when Rutgers at one point was ranked fourth in the nation and reached the Elite Eight behind the shooting of Cappie Pondexter.
