International human rights law is the body of international law designed to promote and protect human rights at the international, regional, and domestic levels.

Human Rights Watch is a nonprofit, nongovernmental human rights organization made up of roughly 400 staff members around the globe. Its staff consists of human rights professionals including country experts, lawyers, journalists, and academics of diverse backgrounds and nationalities.

Human rights are moral principles or norms, that describe certain standards of human behavior, and are regularly protected as legal rights in municipal and international law.

These reports, mandated by Congress in the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961 and the Trade Act of 1974, describe the performance of government that receive U.S. foreign assistance and of all United Nations member states, in practicing their international commitments on civil, political, individual, and worker rights, as defined by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
