The University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine began in 1971. The school offers an accelerated combined Bachelor/MD program based on a six-year curriculum. The school of medicine admits students into the program directly from high school and within six years the graduates attain an undergraduate and a doctor of medicine degree (BA/MD) from UMKC. The curriculum integrates the liberal arts, basic sciences, and clinical sciences with a team approach to learning. More than 2,000 physicians have graduated from the UMKC-SOM six-year combined degree program.

Located in the city of St. Louis, MO, Saint Louis University School of Medicine was established in 1836 and has the distinction of awarding the first M.D. degree west of the Mississippi River.

Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences (KCU) is a Health sciences university located in Kansas City, in the U.S. state of Missouri. The university was founded in 1916, and currently consists of both a College of Osteopathic Medicine and a College of Biosciences. The school occupies the original site of Children's Mercy Hospital.KCU is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and recognized by the Coordinating Board of Higher Education for the Missouri Department of Higher Education. The College of Osteopathic Medicine is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association's Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation.

A.T. Still University of Health Sciences (ATSU) is a non-profit, private, graduate school focusing on health sciences, as well as the world's first osteopathic medical school. Founded in 1892 by Dr. Andrew Taylor Still, the school is based in Kirksville, Missouri, United States, with a second campus in Arizona. ATSU is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
