People have expressed concern that universal screening for dyslexia will lead to more students being referred for special education services. In fact, the purpose of screening is to ensure that more students receive appropriate support in the general education classroom at a younger age, and research demonstrates that effective screening and intervention results in dramatically fewer students referred for special education. How can we ensure that students receive effective intervention in the general education classroom? What barriers do you currently see to realizing this vision?
