Our experience and tips for travelers.
Athens is home to the Greek Acropolis, Parthenon, and Acropolis Museum, some of the most important sites in Western Culture and history. In my opinion, other than that, the city does not have as much to offer as other major cities in Europe, at least for the common traveler. Many areas of Athens are run down, and at times, feel unsafe. We tried to stay away from these areas and stick to the touristy sites. One or two days was enough to see all we wanted to see. If you are really into Greek history and want to take it all in, maybe three or four days would be better.
Tips:
1. There is a 30 Euro pass for all the historic sites near the Acropolis. This is the best and most affordable option if you plan to see all the sites!
2. Food can be very cheap or very expensive depending on location. Touristy areas usually charge much more.
3. Accommodations near the Acropolis are your best bet if possible since most of the interesting stuff is minutes away.
4. Use Beat mobile app to call taxis. There is no affordable über in Athens.
